The Best Line of Defense

From the course: Home Inspection and Appraisal (AgentEDU.com)

The best line of defense is always preparation and knowledge, regardless of your career choice.

When you are granted the opportunity to play a role in someone’s life that involves something as important as a home purchase or investment–it’s your responsibility to learn as much as you can to protect your client. Whether the property is that of a primary residence or not, you are guiding your client on a decision requiring the use of their financial assets. It’s more than a transaction; it’s your clients’ life.

REALTORS today have access to many educational resources, whether through our local association, mine is the REALTORĀ® Association of the Fox Valley, Inc., or National Association of REALTORS (NAR), or Illinois REALTORS we have numerous tools at our disposal to help our clients make educated decisions.

For example, here’s more about the residential appraisal process from NAR: Residential Appraisal Process – FAQs for Agents. Just a sampling of what is out there for us and available at the stroke of a few keys on a keyboard.

As a new REALTOR, I am not managing several clients at once, typically one at a time, but this allows me plenty of time for focus and education. I love learning–almost daily, I find ways of learning something new or reinforcing what I have already learned. Additionally, I have a terrific Managing Broker who has been in the business for nearly 20 years and has experienced just about everything there is to experience.

Working at a boutique brokerage, I can learn from a seasoned professional who shares as much as feasible, so I am constantly learning. I never turn down a learning opportunity.

Life is about learning, growing, and using what you have learned to help others learn and grow.
